When Phil Walker starts seeing the demons within, the world of those afflicted with mental illnesses radically changes, dragging Phil, the medical establishment and everyone else along with him as he combats demons, dragons and fairies. He's soon fighting for his life against mythical creatures, surgeons eager to shut him up, and cops worried about a man threatening the homeless.

The story starts with "The Demons Within", as Phil tries to make a difference without being able to explain what he's doing, or why it works. It continues in "Speaking With Your Demons", where he gives up on wrestling with demons, and instead tries negotiating with them.

This is a box set of the complete Demonic Issues series:

Having abandoned their birth-planet, Earth, to find a new, more welcoming home, Al and his crew have only discovered disappointment and a new round of rejection. Abandoning their ancestral home, they seek out others like them, and a world which will not only accept them, but offer them a home nowhere else will.

However, running from a world at war has problems all its own, with both allies and enemies hunting them down. They're forced to search for other rejects, outcasts and refugees, seeking a new world to support them all.

Despite having a minimal, each has a particular nanobot enabled skill, which gives †hem a unique edge, and their ship's newly liberated AI unit, 'The One', is not only ready, but eager to serve. Will they discover new worlds, or will they be forced to return in despair, and will their new home be habitable, or even friendly, or will they have to fight every inch of the way?

This final book in the series wraps up the various look ends in the series, addressing Al and the others desire to finally find a home of their own, despite the odds and opposition. As such, it deals with the crews frustrations, both with their situation and with their roles in such a tight-knit crew.

Phil, who was able to fight invisible beings and cure people of their mental illnesses, was 'cured' of his ability by the intervention of the medical establishment. Regaining his abilities, and recognized around the world, he's doubly cautious about his approach. In an attempt to remain under the radar, he doesn't inform anyone and takes an unusual approach.

Selecting a new team, consisting of a scarred vet and a young waif, he begins again. Based on new knowledge about his abilities, he seeks to learn more about his opponents, but faces his greatest challenge when confronted with betrayal, deception and open rebellion by those he chooses to work with.

He must choose who to trust: humans or otherworldly creatures, even as he struggles to keep his actions and abilities hidden, while also seeking to leverage his fame and reputation. His assistants prove his greatest foes, while his foes become his greatest aids, in a confusing swirl of otherworldly mixture of confusion, mental illness and blind hope.

More than anything else, this book is about resolving issues, rather than fighting and denying them, especially as they relate to mental health issues. Just as the protagonist recruits his enemies to changing how these creatures torment humans, it's a reflection on accepting your limitations and turning them in acknowledged assets, working for you, rather than against you.

As such, this was once again a very personal story, not that it's biographical, but since it deals with issues I'm familiar with.
