Probably the single most detailed treatment you're likely to find of Tibetan Buddhist ritual without becoming a Lama.

Finally we have a Tibetan grammar rooted in linguistic theory!

Beyer describes Tibetan syntax and morphology in great detail, avoiding the "classical" Sanskrit grammatical framework in favor of one based in Sino-Tibetan. He pays careful attention to regional and diachronic variation -- in fact, the history of the language is never far from the surface of any of his analyses.

One caveat: the book is not an introductory text, but rather an exhaustive grammar unsuited to a beginner's instruction.… (mer)

The word cult is used here in its original and correct meaning of "a system of religious belief". This book deals with the practices surrounding the Buddhist meditational deity Tara, who represents and embodies enlightened compassion.
