Short but sweet. Nice little story of how two guys meet.

I am sorry if I don't do this correctly. I do not usually right reviews, I simply express my feelings.

For me this book was tough to get through at first. It was boring and confusing and irritating. However after first 40 or so pages, even though I was extremely annoyed with the main characters, I was completely drawn into the plot.

After finishing the book I've discovered that reading it was like listening to an orchestra right before a concert or an opera. Each instrument (character) carries its own tune, but they are out of sync, a cacophony. Then sounds pause and the noise settles. And then, by the magic of a conductor's wand, everyone takes a deep breath and all stray tunes suddenly fall into place, playing perfectly in sync and making sense.

About two thirds into the book you get an explanation to Michael's antics and, amazingly, all irrational irritating details start pulling together, presenting the whole picture on a larger scale. The scattered pieces fit and everything makes sense.

The only problem for me was a dialog. Every once in a while I would roll my eyes - do people ever talk like that to each other? **snickers**

Four and a half stars from me :)

(English is not my native language, so - sorry about lapses and grammar ;) )

Actually more a 4.5 star rating, but we all know that's not possible...

First of all let me just say: Wow! Did this one have a surprise in it's tail. And because I refuse to give away anything at all, that's all I'm saying on this score. But be assured there is a lot more to this story than first meets the eye.

This book is not a beginning romance or relationship. Neither is it a firmly established, old one either. Joseph and Michael have moved in together and working their way through the earlish stages of a domestic discipline relationship. Michael is a brat, at times taken to nearly the extreme. During the story it is made clear that he was very spoilt as a child and this is definitely evident in his behaviour. Joseph, his Top is slighty older and is fantastic in the way he handles him.

Their relationship is very interesting and does need to be read in the context of a D/D relationship. Both men are beautifully detailed and the chemistry between them is fantastic. The story telling, while it might seem a little odd or disjointed, leaves you wondering until at the end it all comes together in an exquisitely crafted book.

This is a hard story to review, and not because I didn't like it. On the contrary, I loved it a lot – it has a great mix of melancholy, bittersweet realizations, and, luckily, a minor miracle at the end. I might have had to restock on tissues otherwise! It is written without a single word of dialogue, yet held my attention. The style is closer to a poem than to prose, and I liked the rhythm of its flow. Many similar stories exist, yet this one is unique because of the way Fabian Black chose to tell it.

Jinx is the main character in the story of how he met, then befriended Jim, never realizing how much the man means to him. Through a series of memories of how and when they interact, I got to know Jinx and shook my head at his blindness where his relationship to Jim was concerned. He made so many mistakes, overlooked the most important clues, all of which resulted in incorrect decision after incorrect decision. I truly feared it was too late by the time a tiny sliver of hope appeared on the horizon!

At barely twenty pages, I was still left with the feeling of having lived almost a lifetime. Jinx became real to me, as did Jim, and I recognized parts of people I know in both of them. If you're looking for an action-packed thriller with lots of activity, this isn't it. Neither is it a straightforward romance. But, if you like stories with a different style, if you enjoy a touch of the melodramatic, and if you're looking for a bittersweet read that will almost certainly make you sniffle, if not cry, before making you sigh in relief, then you will probably love this short story.
