I initially bought this book when my teacher gave me a good push to try and get published. I had absolutely no idea how to go about it, and Poet's Market helped. My biggest complaint is that the price is pretty cheap, especially considering the technology we have now. I found that a lot of the information in here - including the journals and publishing agencies - are easily found online. Although I bought the book of the previous year, many of the publishers it included were not active anymore. It's a good place to start but not really worth the price.… (mer)
I have bought too many of these yearly writer's market books always with the intention of getting the novel, short stories, whatever, this year. There are always some helpful articles in addition to the basic how-to stuff (and of course the different market contacts is invaluable) but, beyond my own procrastination issues, I think the best route to go is to find this at your local library rather than spending your money every year (just a little promotion for my profession here.) Now you can subscribe to Writer's Market online services as well, which provides very current information if you want to go that route...… (mer)
