Ken Bruen was born in 1951 in Galway, Ireland. He was educated at Gormanston College, Meath and later at Trinity College Dublin where he earned a PhD. in metaphysics. He spent 25 years as an English teacher in Africa, Japan, Asia and South America. Ken Bruen's works include the well reeived White visa mer Trilogy and a book entitled The Guards, which won a Shamus Award .He also edited an anthology of stories set in Dublin entitled Dublin Noir. His writing speciality is crime fiction. Some of his other works include The Killing of the Tinkers, The Magdalen Martyrs, and The Dramatist and Priest, which was nominated for the 2008 Edgar Allan Poe Award for Best Novel. - Ken Bruen besuchte das St. Joseph’s College in Galway City, später das Trinity College Dublin, an dem er über Metaphysik promovierte.
Bevor er zu schreiben begann, hatte er 25 Jahre lang als Englischlehrer in Afrika, Japan, Südostasien und Südamerika gelebt und gearbeitet. Heute ist er Mitglied eines literarischen Zirkels um Jason Starr, Reed Farrel Coleman und Allan Guthrie. Seine Bücher wurden mit zahlreichen Preisen geehrt, u. a. mit dem renommierten Shamus Award und dem französischen Grand prix de littérature policière.
Bruen lebt mit seiner Frau und einer gemeinsamen Tochter in seiner Geburtsstadt Galway.
Seit 2010 wird mit Jack Taylor eine auf seiner Jack-Taylor-Buchserie basierende Fernseh-Krimireihe produziert.

Sadly,
I may be coming to the end for this series. I don't mind that I don't like Jack but I really don't like much of anyone else either. Sometimes the books are just too bleek even for me. I am also pretty much done with the character Emily. He is a brilliant writer but it might not be for me any longer. I will try one more.

I love the Jack Taylor novels and like the ones in the past the writing is beautiful in this book. However, I really have no clue why Bruen introduced a supernatural element into the 8th book of a series. There is part of me that thinks the next book is going to start with him in a hospital bed having overdosed on cocaine and this book never happened. If you took Taylor out it would have been a more entertaining horror novel but me thinking about Taylor kept getting in the way. I am probably going to pretend like this book never actually happened.… (mer)
I like that Ken Bruen likes to experiment with both his writing style and how he writes the Jack Taylor books but I will say they are always my least favorite books in the series. This one was about a 2.5. Honestly, if these books were not so easy to read quickly I would be dangerously near to saying we had a good run and it might be time for me to move on.

If, however, you are like me and the writing catches you immediately. If Taylor despite all his flaws and heartbreak speaks to you. If the writing style seems to crackle in your brain. Keep reading because you are in for a treat.
I actually found Bruen's writing style a little off putting in The White Trilogy. Enough that I had never gone back but I decided I was going to watch the TV show this summer and before I did I should give the book a shot. I am glad I did. I have immediately moved onto the next in the series.… (mer)
