Both Noah Hearst and Jenna Greaves are mourning. Noah-the loss of his company and the end of his marriage. Jenna is mourning her sister, and the patient she recently lost, Dino Vicenza. Dino promised her his boat, but someone trashed it and sunk it before it was insured. Noah buys the boat at a police auction, and is determined to restore it. His brother, Amos, the local sheriff and some other police help Noah. Jenna and Noah meet and feel a connection. She is drawn to his quiet, gentle ways, and Noah likes Jenna's calmness. Dino's family, however, believes Jenna stole from them. When Dino's past comes to light, Jenna remembers something that helps her and Noah make some decisions.

Admittedly, it took three different tries over maybe a year for me to make a go of this techno-thriller. Normally, I abandon novels if it takes more than about 50 pages for me to get a solid grip on just what's going on and why it matters, specifically.

But six years ago, I read and was intrigued by the human consciousness theme in Fault Lines, the prequel novel in this series. Besides, I already know that Thomas Locke (Davis Bunn) is an excellent writer.

So, I made an exception and took some time to get through all the stuff I didn't understand so that I could latch on to the scenes that made sense to me and the parts I found interesting about consciousness and time. Including some aspects of those themes that I've heard and chewed on before.

Marc Royce once again finds himself in the middle of a life and death situation, the only problem this time is that he has been fired from the US agency he was working from and he has not authority nor backup. Yet, not all is lost. His friend and supervisor from the U.S. State Department called him and wanted him to help.

So once again Marc is going from the Mideast to Asia and all over Europe to find the bad guys who are involved in nuclear warfare and bring them to justice. His friend Carter Dawes shows up for back up once again and helps him. And he is surprised by seeing Kitra Korban, from Bunn’s second book, Rare Earth, show up.

Let’s just say this whole book is a whirlwind of espionage, government agencies, and high tech weapons, desperate situations and romance. It was a great book! I enjoyed every minute and I’m sure you will too. But I strongly recommend reading the series in order.… (mer)
