NCLA Review - Is all cynicism unhealthy? According to the author, the answer is, “No, if discerning Christians can find a way to critique and challenge the church more out of love than out of disgust.” However, Byers says that cynicism is a sickness, but cynics can be redeemed and changed. He tells of the situations in the modern church that lead to the condition and what to do about it. He quotes scripture and other writers and provides discussion questions at the end of each chapter. Even if the reader doesn’t agree with the author’s assessment of the problems and their solutions for the modern church, this is an enlightening book, which would be a good addition to any church library.
