A superlative history of Alberta from historical documents (newspaper articles, photos, editorial cartoons, maps, and photos) on First Nations, explorers, the Hudson’s Bay Company, the Canadian Pacific Railway, the North West Mounted Police, ranching, and above it all the paternalistic attitude of Ottawa towards Western Canada.

An excellent history of this region. Plenty of pictures and illustrations and sidebars on specific subjects add to the narrative.
Wonderful history of Alberta and indeed Western Canada. From the development of major centres, like Edmonton, Calgary and Medicine Hat, to the First Nations, the Railroad and the Fur Trade it covers all the bases and rich illustrations throughout.
