Frozen Heat (Nikki Heat) av Richard Castle
I'm not going to write a review on this, or the subsequent 6, until I have finished the entire series. Then I will review them all at once.
I have to say, this is my favorite out of this series so far.
Why do I read them, knowing they are just another mercy outlet for the show Castle? Because they are a fun and quick read; and I enjoy them.
Yes they have police procedure anthem, but it's not heavy in the weeds like a lot of other books in this genre. Being an easy read, in a genre I like, is sometimes a must after heavy hitting book or two.

I went into this knowing it was ABC's way of cashing in on the success of Castle. Therefore, I really wasn't expecting it to be much to 'write home about'; I was pleasantly surprised.
Although the writing is a bit sloppy in places, and the plot line can get lost in all the other stuff going on, I found it was the perfect read for a couple of stormy days, when I couldn't get much else done.

The latest tie-in novel for the Castle television show is pretty much exactly what you expect a tie-in to be. Therein lies my growing complaint.
While the stories and writing are pretty good, and this plot is (ultimately) one of the best so far, I am tiring of the Mary-Sue of it all. The 'real' Rick Castle would never write this book. In retrospect, he would have never written any of the Nikki Heat books. They are too on-the-nose reflections of his (fictional) life. These are books about Castle, rather than by (Richard) Castle.
The first two-thirds of the book moved pretty slow for me. Either it's chock full of too many introductions and traveling about, or I was just impatient. Either way, it seemed like it took forever to get through. But then things picked up and I liked how they wrapped things up.
Summary: Almost 4-stars for overall writing and plot. Marks off for some boring bits and for Mary-Sue (Ricky-Sue?).… (mer)
