My first Chabrol, L'Heure de Juliette, was a modern day rural village France tale bordering on farce and hilarious at every turn. Emprise brings humour once more to a very different story, with a satisfying side-serving of mystery. Oh, and some gore! Not a lot, but but enough to make you go "OH!"
I did semi-guess a few of the plot points in advance but not the details (why, how etc), and there is a good dose of twists along the way to keep things interesting.
I love the little gang of women who pull together in times of trouble. Nevertheless, L'Heure de Juliette is still my favourite by this author so far and I must seek out the film version which was apparently shot a few years ago.… (mer)
