I really wanted to like this book but I found myself unable to read the whole thing. I barely got halfway through. The story dragged to me and I kept getting confused by the terms used in the book despite the glossary because they were all so similar. I also found the way the characters talk to be flat and awkward. It did not feel like real conversations to me.

I had a few
Mixed emotions about this book. While I enjoyed the storyline and addition of characters and appreciate series books, I felt the book length and some of the storyline dragged on. I know their is an index of the type of characters involved in the story and they were mentioned multiple times throughout the book, but I kept getting confused. It took me nearly to the end of the book before I finally had a handle on things. This is not to say it’s a bad book or I wouldn’t read the sequels because I did enjoy it. In fact I can’t wait to read another one to see what happens. I do feel however that maybe in your next book you should get to the point and not sting it along so much. I do commend you for the time you put into it. You have obviously done through planning and research.… (mer)

This was a fast paced read and one I found hard to put down. Nicoleta is a normal teenager who is looking forward to graduation and a trip with friends to celebrate. Her parents are behind her until they find out the kids plan on going to Romania. Then the truth slowly starts coming out. Her parents are really her aunt and uncle, her real parents are still in Romania, and Nicoleta is a vampire hunter.

There are a lot of people in this book but the way it was written it doesn't get confusing. There are times where I wanted to strangle Nicoleta for not listening (typical teenager) and I got frustrated that everyone forgave her right away for her mistakes. I also loved that not everyone who was bitten turned into a vampire.

That being said I enjoyed a satisfying ending and the promise of a book 2 which I look forward to.

I received this book from LibraryThing Early Reviewers for an honest review.

Found this story to be intriguing and interesting about vampires and vampire hunters, mystery -family dynamics -old & new friendships - even some romance between the characters - gives good explanations of each stage on becoming a vampire and the stages of training to become a vampire hunter/killer- Set in Romania - the book is over 500 pages but I found it to be a fast read due to the interest of the story.
