The Middle Of A Wish is a highly researched, gripping novel. It is somewhat of a cautionary tale, as well as an imagined yet totally believable futuristic story set some decades from now, when climate change and civil war have unalterably changed the landscape of America. The story centers around multigenerational West Coast survivors who must travel East to escape their now unlivable conditions, and the people and challenges they encounter along the way.
This is not a fantasy read, nor a doom-based book, as much as it is a convincing suggestion of how the current events of our time may impact the lives of individuals and families, descriptive of both positive, progressive societal changes as well as the often riveting, harrowing experiences of the travelers.
Ending on a hopeful note, and offering a suggested reading list, this is a creative novel of no little scholarship that will appeal to adult readers of all ages, and provide much food for thought long after the last page is turned.… (mer)
