Christians are duty-bound to keep their faith and walk in the righteous path the Lord intends for them to follow, and in doing so they form a fundamental sort of brotherhood [sisterhood].
When we travel to work, we pass by from a distance, countless individuals who are best described downtrodden, living in the depths of poverty with all of the various attributes. We feel for them but are too far to really do anything about their plight.
Police officers, on the other hand, are right there, on the frontlines, in the midst of the lives of these same people. When they see this, they occasionally mighty have a somewhat difficult time preserving their positive attitude regarding this matter, since there is so much of it.
Many police departments have the phrase “To Protect and to Serve” brazen on the side of their vehicles. Officers are committed to doing this to the best of their abilities for all those they serve; Christian officers at the same time are committed to serving the Lord. In performing this responsibility, they’re confronted with the fact that many of those who they’re attempting to serve, instead of being grateful, have nothing less than disrespect and hatred towards them, leaving them with no one else but those who belong to the same camaraderie they belong to.
Occasionally, being demoralized by everything which is transpiring around them and to themselves, being underpaid, unsupported by those who are paying their salaries; from time to time they might fall victim to temptation, and allow for certain things to occur without taking the appropriate actions. Christian officers need to be mindful and take heed to MATTHEW 26:41 [LKJV]:
“Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
In this book, the protagonist, Daniel, comes to a point in his life and his career where his spiritual strength and faith will arrive at a turning point; forcing him to consider making important options regarding the faith he has in the Lord, his job and vital decisions regarding his marriage and family. This sort of situation can be applicable to anyone who is part of the Thin Blue Line brotherhood, it’s part of a code that outsiders can never understand.
While this book is classified as Christian Fiction on Amazon, having been a Sociology major in college and having taken a course in Urban Sociology, I feel this book, due to the nature of the story, should have been classified as being Christian True-Life Fiction instead. Given the nature of this story and the message it intends to communicate, I’ve given the author, Jeff Coulter, 5 STARS for his endeavor here.… (mer)
