How They Got Into Harvard: 50 Successful Applicants Share 8 Key Strategies for Getting into the College of Your Choice by the Staff of The Harvard Crimson. Epiphany library section 12 F: Teen, Planning Your Future. Any college-bound teen can use the advice in this book to unify and polish their college application, whether applying to community college or the Ivy League. This book’s 50 students are grouped into 8 chapters that show how they gained admittance to college: flaunt your talent and get recruited, be passionate, find the perfect balance, lead the pack, beat the odds, write the standout essay, make and use connections, and make yourself heard and campaign to win. The book gives a short list of stats for each student. Then it gives short write-ups about each student’s high school experiences, their application and essay, what they eventually did at college, and their personal advice to readers such as, “focus on your talents,” “colleges look for the maturity demonstrated when you make sacrifices for your commitment to learning and your passions,” and, “while there is luck involved, preparation allows you to take advantage of any luck that comes your way.”
This book demonstrates how to make your college application express who you are. Do not be intimidated by the application process or the students in this book! Instead, use their advice to make your application uniquely you. We have many such books in our church library. You and your parents should begin to read them when you’re in 9th grade. They will guide you through the entire process. Good luck in being admitted to the college of your dreams. And always have a Plan B!!
