I suspect that this book would be much more useful after a course or two. It would help with remembering all the details once you have a basic feel for how things should go. I certainly wouldn't want to start doing this on my own with the book as my 'teacher'. That's even if you had access to the materials and tools.

And even if you had everything you needed, how are you going to look at the next step in the book while you are holding everything together?

Still, I enjoyed reading about this. I read the German translation.… (mer)

Beautiful, informative but ?? maybe not so useful

This is an interesting book that gives an overview of a craft that is dying out. In reading it you learn the basics of what the craft requires in terms of materials and techniques. But there isn't enough information provided to help you do anything. Neither the text or the photos five enough detail. So I think it is the kind of book to borrow from a library or from someone else but not one to buy.

I received a review copy of "Willow: A Guide to Growing and Harvesting - Plus 20 Beautiful Woven Projects" by Jenny Crisp from White Lion Publishing through NetGalley.com.… (mer)

Weaving baskets is an ancient tradition. This book shows you how to grow willow, how to cure the willow twigs for basket weaving and teaches you some basic and advanced weaving techniques.

Although I have had the pleasure of learning how to weave baskets as a child, I still learned a lot of things from this book. I'd recommend it for beginners and more advanced crafters alike.

This is a gorgeous book that really gets across how much skill and practice there is to willow weaving. It's an appealing introduction to the craft, but I wouldn't expect anyone to learn how to actually make anything solely from this book -- there's clearly a lot of finesse involved that can't be conveyed in photographs and text.
