Quickie Review (May contain spoilers, so fair warning upon reading this review)

So Avenged was a very interesting story. I enjoyed how it connected to the Breaking Point series. I haven't read much of the Saints of Denver so couldn't remember the connection there but I know from reading other reviews that there are connections there. I also really was intrigued by the Mackenzie connection and now I have another series to check out here haha but I am not complaining, Lillian Hart has been an author I have been curious about.

I found this novella to be quite interesting. It didn't really wow me if I am being honest. I just didn't really connect with the story like I wanted to. But I adored the serial connections and I enjoyed the aspects of these characters learning to accept each other and their pasts in such a beautiful way that did feel pretty fulfilling. So if you are fans of this author or these two series, I do recommend reading this one here.

First Impressions
Respect is the finale in the "Breaking Point" series. This is where we get the story featuring the story with Karsen and Booker. I didn't have to wait on this book like others had to as I have yet to read "Better When He's Bold" but you can bet that is next on my list to read soon. I really wanted Booker's story though as I saw his connections to Naasir. I was beyond impressed with this one. If you love a more gritty contemporary, the look no further than this one. I do think you could read this as a standalone if you wanted to. Its written in a way where its definitely compatible in that way. I feel so deeply for these two and their forbidden love story....

First Line
Finally! It felt like I'd been waiting forever for my eighteenth birthday.

The Main Protagonists
The Hero: Booker
The Heroine: Karsen

Summary
Respect begins with our heroine fighting for the man she has been in love with but been waiting for her to mature and be of the legal age as he is a bit older than she is. But on her birthday she learns a painful lesson and her heart is bitterly broken and she leaves the point, the only place she has known as home and leaves for college in Colorado. But now she has graduated and is preparing to go home for her sister's wedding. What she doesn't expect is to have a stalker or to have the man she has loved and never stopped loving to come back into her life seeking redemption. Booker had no choice but to hurt Karsen, but now he is determined to win her no matter how forbidden or what the consequences may be...

What I Loved
So many aspects to this book just had me all over the place with this one. I had such a love for both characters. I really fell hard for Karsen's character. She is a mix of tough and sweet. She can handle herself on the streets, having grown up on the streets, but she has a sense of innocence and love to her character that I instantly gravitated towards. This is what Crownover is really talented at, in writing characters that are so loveable. Then we have Booker, who has had a rough life. He is tormented by his time in juvie and suffers aspects of PTSD still from it. Your heart breaks for these two. Even in the prologue, you just know that there is more going on than meets the eye but its painful to see what it does to their relationship. But when Booker fights for Karsen, its so deeply resonating and emotionally just connects with you because you see his struggle and pain but willing to RISK it all for her and for her to know the truth about what really happened.

What I Struggled With
Honest there wasn't anything specific I could even pinpoint that I struggled with. I loved the epilogue but I kinda want to know what happens with the kids----it kinda left us hanging. haha But if its in her other books---let me know!

Narration
HAUNTINGLY CAPTIVATING! That is the best words to describe how well this narration done. I just didn't want to put this audiobook down at ALL. I had such a blast with the blend of these narrators and how easily they pull you into these characters and make them just come alive.

Overall View
Respect is the finale in the Breaking Point and it packs a punch of resilience, healing, and connection and a beautiful heart of a story!

Favorite Quote(s)
I was powerless where she was concerned, and for the first time in my life, I was okay with that.”

Other people see the Point as this awful place full of crime and terrible people. To me, it was always home. It’s where I felt the safest and most loved.

She might be the princess of the Point, but she was the Queen, the undeniable ruler, of my crooked and shady heart.

First Impressions
Asa is the finale in the "Marked Men" series. This is a story that features a truly opposite couple and their story has been building slowly throughout the series so this was my most anticipated story and I really did enjoy it for the most part. I will always be drawn to the opposites attract trope and you don't get more opposite than a cop/ex criminal pairing. There is some powerful chemistry that builds between these two but the sweet pining between them was so magnetic and Jay Crownover really delivered in that aspect.

First Line
Not too long ago when I watched a girl purposely get as drunk as this pretty one did, I would've moved in for the kill.

The Main Protagonists
The Hero: Asa
Bad boy, Tattoed, ex criminal and working on redeeming his past.

The Heroine: Royal
Working in Law Enforcement, dealing with some emotional trauma and pining for a man that would be her most unlikely match

Summary
Royal Hastings has been working in law enforcement with her best friend. But when her partner is almost killed, she blames herself and is working through the shame and guilt she feels from it and starts second guessing her own abilities. Then jumps into the mix is Asa Cross, who is working on his own path of redemption. The easy way is his old way of being a criminal but Asa is determined to make his sister proud of him and forge a new life for himself. But being with a woman like Royal will push his limits and may be too much of forbidden fruit.

What I Loved
There were many elements to this story that I DID enjoy quite a bit. The way in which Asa rescues Royal in the beginning was so heartfelt. She is on a path of emotional self destruction, and he is there, a steady rock for her and determined to save her from herself if necessary. The journey that Royal goes on in healing and learning to accept things she can't change was powerful. I adored her growth and seeing her find her own place in her career as a officer. I had a blast seeing the chemistry build between Royal and Asa. They are such an unlikely match, but they really fit so well together. They are the epitome of why opposites attract works so well.

What I Struggled With
So there was done factor in this story that completely ruined the book for me and that was in the third act. I didn't really understand what the author was trying to do here because you build up a conflict and then it leaves you mad as a hatter. I coudn't even enjoy the epilogue like I wanted to because of how the conflict was resolved. I did not feel satisfied in any way. I get the motivations on both sides but I just felt like I was given this big meal of promise and expectation and it was ripped away at the last minute lol

Narration
This duo team did a superb job in narrating this story and I really had a fun time doing most of this series in audio. The narration really brought the characters to life.

Overall View
Asa had a powerful match up that delivers strong emotional connection, a vibrant sexual attraction and a pairing that you can fall head over heels in love with!

Favorite Quote(s)
What I want to do is love the Asa that’s here with me now. You need to let go of those boulders weighted with all the bad things from the past that are dragging you down before you get crushed under them

A great foundation for the beginning of a new series that I think will absolutely tug on our heart strings The story was completely unexpected.

Sayer was a fabulous heroine. She was the kind of heroine I love to read about because I see a little of myself in her. It was both frustrating and rewarding to watch the vulnerability she tries to hide unravel. Loved her journey.

Zeb was so endearing. A gentle giant no matter what his past consists of. He was kind, passionate, and true. He wasn't just Mr. Fix It he was a bearded superman ready to take on the world. A truly caring and selfless guy. It was so enjoyable reading about him and his journey as well. It was definitely one I didn't see coming but was do happy it happened.

Zeb and Sayer had amazing chemistry and the sexy times were plenty got but their love story was a tender one. I loved that the most. Built was everything o wanted to to be, really, and more than I could have ever asked for. Jay Crownover is a gem. I'm super pumped about this series and cannot wait for more.
