- Jadwiga Dackiewicz was born in Warsaw, Poland, and graduated with a degree in Romance languages from the University of Warsaw. She made her literary debut in 1948 as a translator of French poetry. She also wrote several biographies. Among the works she translated were the medieval Lais of Marie de France and the epic poem The Song of Roland.
