You can't help but like Red, right from the moment she falls off the fence into a pile of fresh cow manure and starts singing with an attitude. When the video her sister made and posted goes viral, leaving many viewers thinking it's singer Zay-Zay Waters, it's the beginning of a very interesting ride, both literally and figuratively. Red's family farm is struggling, so when she's approached by Zay-Zay's representatives to act as the singer while Zay-Zay supposedly goes on a rainforest retreat with a shaman, she balks until she's offered enough money to save the farm.
Zay-Zay is the classic spoiled star, selfish, immature, and self-centered, The contract she makes Red sign is restrictive and makes it almost impossible for Red to comply, given her warm and caring way of being. She does her best, but when she starts interacting with Koi, Zay-Zay's 'fake' boyfriend, things go off the rails. Reading how that happens makes for a very delightful escape for the reader. This is a funny and feel-good story.

Light-hearted, funny, and cute. Slightly cheesy. Insta-lovey. A little curious as to why Zeppy fell for Jerzie so hard. I know why I like her but why does he like her beyond how fine she is and her big voice? I’m not against their love, but I wanted more interaction between them. There’s an age gap (Jerzie’s 16 - 17 and Zeppelin’s 19; his friends seem to be 21 and up). I like Zeppy, but I wouldn't feel comfortable with a 19-year-old dating a high-schooler in real life. While the ending feels very heavy-handed and unrealistic, it’s fitting.

At many moments, Zeppelin felt too good to be true. like, i was betting on him turning out to be a clout-chaser, two-timer, or whatnot. But, hey we need nice YA male leads. we had a whole array of broody, mean ones.

I loved this book. Gave me so many chuckles and so many tears. And so many life lessons.

I absolutely loved this book, Red as a character was so relatable as someone with big dreams from a small town. It was inspirational to see the things she could accomplish. This book hooked me in from the start and was hard to put down, leading to me finishing it in one day. This is definitely a book I would classify as NA and it was expertly written. You get to watch Red's character development of wanting to be someone like Zay-Zay into learning to love herself for who she is.

I loved how chaotic it became when Red accidentally told Koi about the breakup and the twists that plot went through. The side characters made this book all the more interesting from Taylor Thompson Lee and his girlfriend Issa, to the family who is nothing but supportive of Red following her dreams to sing, to the staff Zay-Zay allowed to know about Red.

There were a couple things I found a bit hard to read, one if the Brooklish translations: there were just so many of them for a bit. Another part was the poor treatment of the puppy for a bit. They are not major things but things that bothered me None-the-less.

I will definitely be reading another Dana Davis book if I am able to.
