China During the War and Since The Peace av John Francis Davis
My copies are brittle but complete.
Translated by Davis and published in 1822, the stories presented are good choices in that they are quite different and feature different aspects of Chinese customs and society of the time. Similarly with the "proverbs and moral maxims." They are entertaining stories and the translations flow and seem accurate.
