Highly recommended! Great introductions to each narrative. Gained lots of knowledge about NA culture as well as relations between whites and NA. My favorite narratives were those of Mary Jemison, Sarah Wakefield, Emeline Fuller, and Mary Kinnan, since they give the most historical information and also contain unusual opinions and actions for the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Mary Jemison stayed with the Indians even after she was released from captivity. Sarah Wakefield defended her Sioux captors. Emeline Fuller was the only member of her family of twelve to survive an ambush on the Oregon Trail and resorted to cannabalism to survive. Mary Kinnan was saved by an African-American after Seminoles attacked her home.… (mer)
