I have many mix emotions while reading (listening) this. Parts I really like were about nature and Cherokee myths and legends. The book also display strength and resilience. The story is about Betty, one of eight children of Cherokee father and white mother grown up in poverty. Lots of hardship, abuse (human and animal) and incest. It's also too long for a heavy and dark story, 17:36 hours.

Before you read consider all trigger warnings and they're probably in this book. I almost DNF because the explicit rape of a child made me sick. (Let me know if I should hide this if it's considered a spoiler)… (mer)
