Christine’s husband has passed away. She decides that she and her kids need a fresh start. They move to a cliff top house with breathtaking views. But Christine soon learns this area has a past. A little child was murdered on the beach below her. And the murderer was found…but was it the right guy. Christine knows deep in her heart the cops made a mistake! She is positive it was her neighbor!

This book needs a bit of a trigger warning. It starts off with two rough scenes…one with an animal and one with a child. I will be honest, it was almost a DNF for me at that point. I thought I will give it 3 strikes…it was up to 2! The story just kept getting better and better after that rough start. And it reeled me in…hook, line and sinker!

Erica Sands is a smart cookie. I loved her strength and intelligence. She never gives up. Then there is Christine. I really enjoyed how the author portrays her. As the reader, you are definitely drawn into her situation, which creates all kinds of emotions!

The narrator, Jan Cramer, is not my favorite in this novel. I felt like her voice was very harsh for Detective Sands, especially when she is giving bad news to someone. And she gets pretty shrill when Christine would get excited. Now that one might be by design. Someone listen to this and tell me your thoughts!

Need a good murder tale…THIS IS IT! Grab your copy today.

I received this novel from the publisher for a honest review.

This was a good time First 5 star of the year

I loved listening to Billy Wheatley talk about his big adventure when a girl goes missing and how it turns back and affects him and his dad greatly. But I also loved after the story - hands down best author about me and acknowledgement I’ve read in years. Kudos Gregg Dunnett. I hope you get your adventure!

Billy and his father, Sam, have lived alone on Lornea Island for several years. Billy spends a lot of his time working on his many projects that he hopes will someday lead him to be a marine biologist. His dad works as a handyman for a local hotel keeping the rental cabins repaired and up to date for tourists who spend the summer on the island. His father's real passion is surfing, and he spends time almost everyday with his friends at the beach. Billy has decided to use the time that his father is surfing to investigate the case of a tourist named Olivia Curran who has been missing for months. He begins following a local man, Mr. Foster, because several of the kids in his school think he is a pedophile, and some of Billy's observations seem to point to him as the culprit. As Billy becomes more deeply involved, it isn't long before he realizes that the Olivia Curran case is more complicated than he thinks, especially when some of the clues point closer to home.
The Things you find in Rockpools is a very long story that takes many turns before finally revealing the answer to the big mystery of the missing girl, Olivia Curran. The story is told in first person from Billy's perspective, but some of the chapters are written in third person as information is presented by the police detectives who are on the case. There are many pieces of evidence that come out of the blue right at the end that lead to the resolution, leaving the reader to wait until the final few pages for the meat of the story. Overall, this is an interesting mystery that could have been better with more work on pacing.

I loved this book. Besides some time jump issues that weren't quite fair to the reader, I couldn't put it down. Any faults were quickly overlooked because this author knows how to cast out some suspense and slowly reel the reader in on a hook! He also used some great misdirection on the way to revealing the true culprit - it made me realize how many books lack believable red herrings.
