This book was a very informational book for kids and possibly a good refresher for some adults. Although this book is too hard too read for students in kindergarten through first grade, it can be used as a read-aloud book. The author did a good job of changing the color to the sight words so that they pop out to the reader. This book is great for students in second through fourth grade because the fill in the blank and crosswords serves as a good review and will keep them engaged throughout while reading the book. Lastly, this book reaches all three types of learners. The pictures and diagrams cater to the visual learner, the information in the reading cater to the auditory learner and the building a rocket activity caters to the kinesthetic learner. I could definitely see myself using this book in my future classroom as an introduction to a lesson on space.… (mer)

This informational chapter book is filled with informational text, photos, and illustrations, games/experiments, captions, and even vocabulary words. This book is jammed packed with interesting facts about space and different visuals and activities for students. Every page is filled with color and the book is divided into sections by topic. I think this is helpful because if a student forgets what the small section they are reading about is, then they are able to go back to the beginning of the section for reference.

The text in the book varies from page to page. Sometimes there is more text on one page than there is another. Some pages have textboxes on them filled with a vocabulary word definition or a caption of a picture that is on the page. There are some pages that are just a picture, experiment for the students to perform, or an activity that relates to the text. I think having experiments being incorporated into the book is a good way to have students become excited about science and have something to look forward to when they test the experiment and it can be tied back to the text.

I do think that there are one too many sections in this book. There are sections I think that are not needed and they could have taken those out and expanded some of the more important sections like the solar system, for example, could have been expanded. I think that would have made the book more relatable to subjects that are being taught in schools.

I do think this is a great beginner book for students. There are a good amount of words on the pages and they have already chosen the vocabulary words for the readers and they are in different colored fonts so it easy to find. They also provide the definition on the same page which is really helpful for beginners.

This book was very informational and the main idea was all about space exploration and what people can expect to find in space. The book discussed the solar system with all the different planets, the different types of stars found in space, and the moon. Space Exploration provides the reader with a brief overview of outer space. It discusses how one can explore outer space using their eyes as well as a telescope, how a rocket takes off, landing on the moon, space suits, landing on Mars, Martians, and what is beyond the moon and Mars. This book is also interactive helping readers better understand the information presented. There are fill in the blanks, a crossword puzzle, a word search, true or false questions, a Earth and Mars comparison activity, and directions for making a balloon rocket.… (mer)
