Is It Friday Yet? (Luann, No 3) av Greg Evans
The third collection of "Luann", a teen comic strip which probably compares closely with "Funky Winkerbean" at this stage. "Luann" is the better strip at this point, although both strips share several commonalities, including an eventual willingness by their creators to move the characters ahead in age, and to break into serious topics and plotlines that are rare in the comics. This collection has Luann at about 13, and introduces her lovable little dog Puddles.

The second collection of the teen comic strip, "Luanne", at a stage when she and her friends are 13 (the age in the current incarnation of the strip seems to be about 19). At this time the strips are mildly humorous, dealing with hackneyed teen themes as secret crushes, self-doubt and mall trips. It's moderately better than the early version of "Funky Winkerbean", but not by a lot. It's still an uneven strip, but much more ambitious and wide-ranging now, with flashes of brilliance. And I've come to care about the characters. The early books are primarily of historical interest to me, and I do have a slight completist compulsion.… (mer)
An earlier Luann collection, possibly at age 15. A number of firsts here: Luann makes some progress with hunky Aaron Hill. Dorky Gunther makes some progress with Luann. Blob of a brother Brad makes some progress with Diane. Tiffany, as usual, is lurking about, demanding attention, stirring up strife. I like how this strip has matured over the years, and this collection may well be the starting point thereof.
An earlier collection of the teen comic strip "Luann", when she was about 13 and her brother Brad about 16. This is Teen Angst Light, before Greg Evans aged his cast a bit and took them into weightier issues on occasion. It's still a nice strip, with a few chuckles mixed in. But I'm glad Evans and his strip grew up some.
