A gem of a book. The best I have read on health care. It is balanced, comprehensive, chalk full of detailed facts, and provides nuanced cross-country evidence in the discussions. The book stresses institutional inertia and political factors that shape health care reforms. The chapters cover: funding health care, intergovernmental relations, health care administration and governance, health care and the courts, public health and population health, health human resources, drugs and drug policy, mental health, beverage systems (Britain, Sweden, and the internal market), Bismarck systems (France, Germany, and the social insurance model), mandated private insurance (the united states and the long road to reform) and conclusions.… (mer)
