Jonathan Safran Foer (born 1977) is an American author best known for his novels Everything Is Illuminated (2002) and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close (2005). He was born in Washington, D.C. and attended Georgetown Day School and Princeton University. In 2000, Foer was awarded the Zoetrope: visa mer All-Story Fiction Prize and in 2007 he was included in Granta's Best of Young American Novelists. Det här är en riktigt, riktigt bra bok. Ofta trollbinds jag, men inte hela tiden - därför blir det inte en femma. Ett litterärt verk av hög klass: imponerande, äkta och mycket fin. Även språkligt och formmässigt intressant och väl genomförd. Jag har fortfarande inte läst ut Allt är upplyst, trots upprepade försök - den fångar mig inte alls. Men det gör verkligen Extremt högt och otroligt nära. Rekommenderas!

Safran Foers beskrivning av pojkens tankar och känslör efter förlusten av sin far är mycket bra. Jag gillar hans sätt att dra paralleller om bombningen av Dresden under andra världskriget, även om det naturligtvis var en mycket större utplåning (dessutom utförd av de allierade!).
Romanens disposition liknar inget jag tidigare läst och mediets "bok" uttnyttjas till fullo, tror jag. Det blir intressant, inte bara berättartekniskt, utan också formmässigt.

Den handlar om 9-årige Oscar som kommer hem på förmiddagen den 11 september 2001 och lyssnar av telefonsvararen. Där hör han sin pappa "Hallå? Är det någon där? Jag ville bara säga att jag är ok. De har sagt att vi ska vänta här tills barndmännen kommer. Är det någon hemma?" Det finns fyra meddelanden. En stund senare ringer telefonen. Oscar ser på displayen att det är hans pappa, men han svarar inte. Om vad sorg och förtvivlan kan göra med oss människor, eller vad det kan göra med barn. Fantastiskt insiktsfullt om hur en nioåring tänker och känner. Ett otroligt språk, som jag skulle beskiva som "kulligt", på något sätt. Som att författaren gått fram och tillbaka över en kullerstensgata och skrivit. LÄS.… (mer)

Bra bok med orginellt upplägg. Den börjar fantastiskt bra, man sugs in i historien och vill verkligen vara med, se vad nästa sida har att bjuda på. Men den tappar lite i fart, humorn dämpas, men bara för att allt skall ändra karaktär och bli intressant igen, på ett annat vis.
Jag har aldrig läst någonting liknande (åtminstone inte formmässigt), och Foer briljerar.
Men visst undrar man om inte Hassan Khmerei läst "Allt är upplyst" innan han skrev "Montecore"?
