Unstoppable, fierce, feisty Sara Jane Rispoli is an uber-cool teen heroine with an in-your-face attitude and she won’t cower down from bullies, bullets, or baddies. Girls will admire her and want to be her; guys will want to meet her and if they’re brave, date her. From the first words in the “prelude,” I was reading with breathless anticipation of what would happen next. This book is a suspenseful thrill-ride that will have teens reading into the wee hours of the morning.

The day of her sixteenth birthday, Sara returns home to an empty and darkened house. It’s unusual—where is her family? She enters and can’t believe her eyes. The living room is tossed—someone was looking for something—and whoever it was didn’t appear to find it. She investigates and finds blood on the wall and their family dog has been badly beaten. Just then, a man jumps on her in the dark basement. Sara is a fighter—she’s been training at a local boxing gym for years, and she gets in a few well-aimed licks and jumps into her dad’s old Lincoln along with Harry the dog who helps her escape. Sara’s on the lam and running out of time to find answers.

She goes to the gym where she thinks she can find a safehouse until she can figure out what happened and who is after her. She knows not to trust the cops because they are now looking for her, too. The one thing she carried out of the house is a cheap plaster bust of Frank Sinatra that always sat on their mantle. It has a camera in it, and Sara Jane replays the tape and sees her father’s last message to her. He is in a panic and tells her to go to the God of Fire. It’s code for the Vulcan oven in her family’s bakery.

Sara Jane follows the clues and finds a hidden room, a coded notebook, a Sig Sauer .45 (gun), $96,000 in cash and an Amercan Express Black card in her name. What did her father intend when he left all this behind? Sara Jane deciphers what’s in the notebook—much of it is yellowed and very old and some of it is in Italian.

She reads the history of her family and realizes that their very being is a sham. Her grandfather was a powerful man in Chicago and her whole family is “mobbed up.” The notebook holds the ultimate key, and whoever wants it will stop at nothing to get that notebook away from Sara Jane.

Her pudgy but helpful friend Doug steps in as “Robin” to her “Batman” and they take the fight to the criminals. This books sets up the sequel nicely. I can’t wait to find out what happens next!

I predict this is going to be a huge title. The cover with the picture of a tough looking girls holding a steel briefcase is edgy and screams, “BUY ME! “ The back cover and inner cover hooked me, and I had to purchase this book for myself. Teens are going to love this one.

Highly, highly recommended grades 7-up. Some violence, mob references to crimes, Doug mentions he doesn’t know if he likes boys or not—but he doesn’t go into detail and he’s never acted on it. No other sexual references.

Finally the last and finally book and WOOHOO, did I ever enjoy it. I really love the buildup of this series and the way it ends…absolutely perfect.

Plot: This story picks up where the last book left off and Sara is gearing up for the final battle. She is piecing together her family history seamlessly and vastly learning everything she can. Sara is just steps away from saving herself but at times I wonder who will save her? This plot builds up nicely with so much action to fight scenes to much drama that ensnares the reader till the end.

Mafia: I really loved the history on this part. Over the course of both books Sara has leaned much about her family and their secrets. She sees the fight that lays ahead of her but she is also very determined to win. I like that in her. The fight to control, to keep going. This girl is tough yet resilient. The connections that her family has leads to ever more drama. The struggle for power between families, wealth, and most of all the “ultimate power”. I anxiously read this book waiting for the answers.

Ending: If you ask me, the last chapters in the book are DA BOMB! Sara has done everything she can to save her family, she served her dues and now its time to move on. *LIGHTBULB* Sara comes up with a brilliant plan and WOO it made me giggle and get butterflies in my tummy. Sara, you are amazing!! The way the story ended, is like Sara kicked all those mafia guys to the curb. And they didn’t even have time to BLINK! LOL.

If your into action-packed yet history filled story read this series. The characters grow wonderfully throughout the series and every question that the reader might have is answered. The motives, the mafia and the “ultimate power” all capture the reader till the very last page. Embers & Ash is awesome.

What I Loved
Final
This is the final book in the trilogy and what a ride this whole series has been. Everything was summed up very well. A fast paced, kick ass book with something crazy happening on every page. One thing after another kept on happening to Sara Jane, the poor girl, she is one character I would never want to trade places with. Oh man what an ending! Just when you think you have it all figured out something crazy happens and a new twist occurs.
Action
Never a dull moment or boring slow page in the whole entire book. Every page is utilized to its fullest. It is just jam packed with action, information, betrayal, car chases, fights...
No Romance
I do love reading a book where there is little to no romance, it is a great break from the heavy romance reads.
Characters
Sara Jane: I loved her tough kick ass character from the very beginning and loved her till the very end. She is one determined crazy girl to keep on doing what she needs to do to save her family.
Doug: The best side kick and best friend that anyone could ever have. He is fun character!

Didn't Love
It was sad to read all the bad crap that keeps on happening to Sara Jane, but it makes for an exciting book.

Recommendation
A must read trilogy for any male or female reader who loves fast paced action books and doesn't get squeamish.

What I Loved
Information
In this second book we get a lot more information about Ghiaccio Furioso and the history of GF, more about Sara Jane's family history with the mob. The first book opened up so many questions in Sara Jane's life now in Flicker & Burn we are closer to learning it all.
Story
Lots of things were going on in this book. Sara Jane is still running and hiding, trying to find her family, dealing with the mob, trying not to get killed and all the while managing high school drama.
A Page Turner
Just like the first book I was kept intrigued throughout the entire book. Things were always happen and more information was always being revealed, new twists and turns kept on happening at every moment.
Character
Sara Jane: She is still as awesome as ever! I can't wait to see what happens to her in the final book and how she will manage to save her family and deal with it all. Bring on the next book and more kick ass Sara Jane!
Doug: Not the typical sidekick by any means, but that is what I do enjoy about his character. Loyal to the bone (when not addicted to substances), which is a perfect partner for Sara Jane. I'm interested to see what else he will do in the final book.

Didn't Like
I missed the action packed book that was book one (we still got a good amount of action, just not as much), but we do get a lot of great information which was very intriguing.

Recommendation
A must read series, everyone boy or girl should add this to their reading list
