Harry E Gove

Harry Gove was a professor of Physics and specialized in Accelerator Mass Spectrophotometry Carbon Dating. In fact, he was part of a team that developed the new protocol in 1977. When the opportunity to Carbon Date the Shroud of Turin, he bullied, cajoled, threatened and blackmailed anyone he needed to in order to produce two results; 1. He and his fellow AMS labs would be solely responsible for Carbon dating the Shroud and; 2.The complete removal of the Shroud of Turing Research Project (STURP), an American team of scientists composed of persons from the military, NASA, the medical community and private industry that worked on their own time to perform a battery of tests on the Shroud in 1978.

Dr. Gove's book is filled with bias ridiculing everyone from the STURP scientists to the church hierarchy including Anastasio Cardinal Balistrero, Archbishop of Turin and Pope John Paul II.

Never have I read a book by a more arrogant and narcistic individual.

The book does have some good points in that it offers insight into the political arena of the Shroud of Turin and the obstacles encountered by the carbon dating researchers and the church officials themselves.

I would suggest rather, books authored by William Meacham, Joes Marino, Dr. Zugibe and Ian Wilson for better perspectives on Sindonology, or rather, the study of the Shroud.… (mer)
