Robert Guest is a Washington correspondent for The Economist and regularly appears on CNN and the BBC. Previously, he covered Africa for seven years, based in London and Johannesburg. He has also worked as a correspondent in Tokyo and a freelance writer in South Korea. He lives in Washington, DC.

Borderless Economics: Chinese Sea Turtles, Indian… av Robert Guest

Optimistic survey of the positive effects of globalization, be they economic or social or political. Closing you borders and foolish dreams of mercantilism or autarky will only hurt a nation and people in the long run. Freedom of information flow, combined with good government policy, will be a definite boon to any nations future. Compare Botswana and zimbabwe.

May be optimistic and almost cliched for some, but worth looking at nonetheless.

The Shackled Continent av Robert Guest

The basic diagnosis is correct: Africa has been betrayed and failed by its leaders. But Guest's "solutions" are trite and typical of the West's dominant worldview: economic growth, free trade and globalisation are good. And should they be simply applied in Africa, all will be solved.
