Household Hints
I'm going through this at odd times, and enjoying all the hints to make kitchen and household chores easier that we don't have to do anymore, because appliances and materials and cleaning products have improved.
I'm not sure if this 50 year old book is still in print. I found it laying around the house - likely from my husband's ex wife and decided to give it a go. Not many of the hints in the book apply to today's kitchen - with self-cleaning ovens and frost free freezers, but I did find the hints pretty entertaining. The frugality of people living then was far beyond the waste we see now. It went so far as to recommend sewing together old newspapers to make kitchen garbage bags. Cleaning windows with kerosene to avoid streaks isn't a regular practice today either. It is amazing how times have changed!… (mer)
