Grand Opening Celebration After more than 50 years of independent bookselling in its original basement location, the Seminary Co-op Bookstore has moved into a new location on South Woodlawn. Designed by the world-renowned architectural firm—and Co-op members—Tigerman McCurry Architects, the new Woodlawn store offers the same unique selection of titles and knowledgeable staff. Reading and browsing is now an even greater pleasure for our customers with sleek, comfortable furnishings and natural light pouring in from floor-to-ceiling windows.
The location has changed, but that which makes the store so special—our selection, staff, and you, our customers and partners—has not. Join us in celebrating our new chapter at the Grand Opening, a day of family-friendly programming, featured authors, refreshments, and live music.

Aleksandar Hemon The Book of My LivesThe Book of My Lives is part memoir, part love song to Sarajevo and Chicago, part heartbreaking paean to the bonds of family. Hemon's first book of nonfiction defies category and convention. It is a book driven by passions but built on fierce intelligence, devastating experience, and sharp insight. And like the best narratives, it is a book that will leave you a different person, with a new way of looking at the world, when you've finished. For fans of Hemon's fiction, The Book of My Lives is simply indispensable; for the uninitiated, it is the perfect introduction to one of the great writers of our time. Aleksandar Hemon is the author of The Question of Bruno, Nowhere Man, The Lazarus Project, and Love and Obstacles. He has been the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, a "genius grant" from the MacArthur Foundation, and the PEN/W. G. Sebald Award. He and his family live in Andersonville.

The Lazarus Project Aleksandar Hemon Aleksandar Hemon was marooned in Chicago during a 1992 visit when his native city of Sarajevo came under siege. Of Bosnian ethnicity, Hemon wrote his first story in English in 1995 and went on to publish three collections in addition to his novel The Lazarus Project. Hemon has been awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship as well as a “genius grant” from the MacArthur Foundation. The Lazarus Project was a finalist for the National Book Award and National Book Critics Circle Award. Occasionally caustic and always witty, the novel explores the nature of violence, religious and ethnic division, and what it means to remake a life after displacement. Junot Diaz describes it as incandescent: “When your eyes close, the power of this novel, of Hemon’s colossal talent, remains.”
