Spencer Holst (1926–2001)

I discovered Spencer Holst in a work titled "Flash Fiction", an anthology of very short fiction. In my opinion, his story, "Brilliant Silence", is - along with Le Guin's "Darkness Box" - one of the two most elegantly crafted and affecting short stories in the English language.

These short stories are lovely little morality tales with a touch of humor. They read something like poetry and remind me of Aesop's fables. "The Zebra Story Teller" the first story in less than two pages gives purpose to the story teller.
