- Michelle Hoover teaches writing at Boston University and Grub Street and has published fiction in Confrontation, The Massachusetts Review, Prairie Schooner, and Best New American Voices, among others. She has been a Bread Loaf Writer’s Conference scholar, the Philip Roth Writer-in-Residence at Bucknell University, a MacDowell Fellow, a Pushcart Prize nominee, and in 2005 the winner of the PEN/New England Discovery Award for Fiction. She was born in Ames, IA, the granddaughter of four longtime farming families.

Bottomland: A Novel av Michelle Hoover
This book lost me when it switched to the second and then third narrator. I skipped ahead to see what really happened to the daughters, but then I called it quits.
Quick read. Beautifully written book, very much character driven, quiet drama, disturbing truths, haunting.
Intriguing storyline. Poorly written. Second Michelle Hoover and my last.
Lyrical prose, superb description, dialogue that rings true. Akin to The Color Purple but without the gratifying ending. Should have left off the last chapter, because the penultimate is raw and edgy and deep, and the last is a poor attempt at a salve. Worth reading for a gritty transport to the era, and for a lesson in writing tight, effective prose.
