My trend lately is to hate on the majority of art books that I read (except for the art itself, of course), but this book actually managed to buck the trend! The authors divide the sections of the book by decade (which my analytic researcher’s mind enjoys), and focused on digestible subjects which ranged from 1-4 pages of text in length. This “bite-sized” essay format made reading the book very simple, and created a logical flow to the design of the book overall, while still presenting a large amount of Andy Warhol’s work and discussing all of the main themes of his art. It would, of course, have been nice to see an even larger range of Warhol’s artwork, but this book is meant to present an introduction to specific topics to whet the reader’s appetite for later increased research into a subject of their choosing and interest - which it does quite well. To top it all off, the addition of facsimile artefacts from the Warhol archives (ranging from an example of his cow-print wallpaper to his post-shooting medical bill) was a cute touch, and undoubtedly something that Warhol himself would have found charming.… (mer)
