Suspense runaround with sf trappings. Author finds it useful to explain how analog tv signals work, 30+ years after their invention, so let's not call it sf. Nice use of surveillance as a plot device however. The narrator bluffs his way through nearly the entire book. It tends to keep him alive, with the side effect of being mystified by the end of each chapter, if not sooner. The author pretty obsessively reveals everything as the book wears on, even when that means a lot of posthumous revelation. Like I said, suspense. By the end I felt like the author and the narrator were the same person - which put that way sounds positive, but isn't.… (mer)
