Job (1) (1927–)

While trying to save a bear cub from drowning, Yakari falls into the river and is found by a distraught bear mother who is convinced that he is her son, turned into a human by the Bear Spirit. I read this series when I was a kid and find that I still like it a lot, especially its emphasis on respect for nature. It is meant for a younger reader since the story is highly message-driven and can seem slightly "teachy" at times, but it has lots of entertaining characters, lots of humor, and tense situations, so it shouldn't be too much of an issue. It is a great example of Franco-Belgian comics (even if the creators were Swiss-born), so if you like those, I think you'll like this too.… (mer)
