Karen Katz is an American author and illustrator of children's books. After graduating from the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia, she attended the Yale Graduate School of Art and Architecture where she became interested in folk art, Indian miniatures, Shaker art, and Mexican art. Her first book, visa mer Over the Moon, was inspired by the experience of adopting her daughter from Central America. After graduating from the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia, she attended the Yale Graduate School of Art and Architecture where she became interested in folk art, Indian miniatures, Shaker art, and Mexican art. Her book, Counting Kisses, was named one of the 100 Greatest Books for Kids by Scholastic Parent & Child and was a Children's Book-of-the-Month Club Main Selection. Karen, her husband Gary Richards, and their daughter, Lena, divide their time between New York City and Saugerties, New York.

My First Ramadan (My First Holiday) av Karen Katz
This book would be good for primary students. This book is "My First Ramadan (My First Holiday)" written and illustrated by Karen Katz and published in 2007. This book tells the reader about the holiday of Ramadan in very easy words for children that have never heard about it to try and understand the basic elements of the holiday. I would definitely use this in my classroom to teach about ramadan, especially if there is someone in my classroom that celebrates it so that their culture and holidays feel represented in my classroom and so that the class understand why a classmate might be doing things differently than them.… (mer)

Great book combining counting and love/affection. Mx used to love it went I would do what each page described, the belly kisses were especially tickley, which he loved.
