Depending on how good a writer you are this book will either be a huge help or a waste of time. I myself have struggled with dialogue a lot, and in several ways. It took me awhile to get through this (as it does for any non-fiction book) but I'm glad I did. I really think it helped me. Getting more familiar with proper punctuation made me loosen up and just let the dialogue flow out and there are a lot of good tips for getting into your character's heads and how dialogue can be used to do various, wondrous things. Dialogue is part of a continuing series on writing instruction teaching its reader the "techniques and exercises for crafting effective dialogue." I thought this book did just that. Lots of tips which I found to be very helpful, I'm hoping some of the lessons sunk in and I will be even more aware when I'm falling short with what dialogue is supposed to accomplish in any given scene.

There were plenty of writing exercises to strengthen the "muscle memory" of the brain and I felt very encouraged that I, too, could write good dialogue. It just takes practice.… (mer)
