You (You, #1) by Caroline Kepnes

A fast paced psychological thriller, told through Joe's voice. An unreliable narrator, a possible sociopath (the story) had me on the edge of my seat. Beck was not very likable, but did not take away from the story.

Overall I did like this story, I had to see how it ends. I do intend to read more in the series. I recommend to those who enjoy psychological thrillers. I am Suggesting readers 18+ due to some sexual content.

This is one of my most anticipated releases of 2021 and thank you so much to both Netgalley and Random House for the gift advance copy of You Love Me. I also want to say I am truly sorry for the delay of this review. This lateness is no reflection on how good or bad this book is. I have just had a few months where I haven’t wanted to do anything but read sleep repeat.

I first off want to say I am a major fan of Joe Goldberg and the YOU series. I love the character that is Joe. (don’t judge me I know he is nuts.) there is just something so captivating in the way this author describes this crazy man and the women that come across him.

I read You and Hidden Bodies again to prepare myself for book three and I am really glad I did. Once the story finishes in Hidden Bodies, I am instantly wanting to know how Joe and Love's story continues. This book takes you in a completely different direction than what's expected, and I think I really enjoyed that the most. I wasn't expecting Joe to fall for someone else and I certainly wasn't expecting that person to be in the predicament she was in.

Although the fact that this other person loves books is a complete added plus to this read. I will say I missed a bit of Joe in this book considering that I felt like this book was very tame in who he was in book one and two. That being said will people die in this book? Will we get a crazy obsessive Joe? Yes and kind of. There are parts you will find that the old Joe shines and it is great and there are parts where he tries to be tame and normal and it is just weird. I know this review is a bit tame and lacks detail but it is truly something you should experience on your own if you are a fan of the series. I will give it three stars because it was good but I can’t go any higher then that because I just needed a bit more crazy Joe and a little less attempt at normal. Will I continue the series if it continues? Yes, I would I would even love to see a different series from her. I will say that if you haven’t read the first two books start there. They are worth it.

I first want to thank Netgalley and everyone involved in making the master piece that is Providence by Caroline Kepnes. I LOVED Caroline Kepnes’ YOU and Hidden Bodies so when this came up on my screen I knew I had to read it. Providence is a mishmash of genres- thriller, paranormal, urban fantasy, young adult and it made it a mishmash 0n how I felt about it at certain times but it is so interesting and well written that by the end you love it. Jon and Chloe grow up as best friends in New Hampshire. Their feelings for each other start to grow, but they never talk about it. Just as Jon is about to confess how he feels, he is kidnapped by his teacher. His teacher has an obsession for H.P. Lovecraft, an author of horror pulp fiction, and by kidnapping Jon, the teacher is planning to save the world. Chloe is left to mourn Jon and becomes an adult without him there to support her. Jon finally escapes, but does so with an uncontrollable superpower, which can hurt the people he loves most. Of course he runs away to protect Chloe from his power, but all the while, he is being tracked by a detective. What is good about this story is that it is told from multiple points of view. I find Cloe and Jons story easy t0 read and likeable characters. The story is well written and shows the different dimensions of the writer making this a must read book.

This was a very interesting reread for me. I received a copy of book three from the publisher and I wanted a refresher course in books one and two. When I read this originally I gave it four stars it still deserves four stars. My thoughts haven't changed much so I will be leaving the majority of my review intact.
Where do I begin? As someone who loves thriller novels, it can be difficult to come across a premise that isn’t predictable. Most often, I can figure out what is going to unfold before it does, and guess the ending ahead of time. You by Caroline Kepnes completely blew me away and had me wondering what would happen next throughout the entire novel. It’s that dark and disturbing page-turner that had me lost in Joe and Beck’s world until I put the book down hours later. Even without the book in my hands, I had my thoughts on what would be happening next and didn’t go long without getting back into the book. Even though I reread this I found things that I missed the first time around.

You might as well say I was addicted to finishing this novel, just like Joe is addicted to making Beck his own. It’s such a well balance of crass, wit, and clever, but comes together in this brilliant disturbing storyline. It’s an exceptional thriller that is chillingly passionate, dangerous, and quite often left me speechless. This novel is without a doubt my favorite release of 2014. I am so glad that the author has continued the series and I am lucky enough to have my hands on book three already.
