I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

I love books with kids! Family is the most important thing in my life so I like to read about other families, especially two guys who are able to make it work for them.

The book started out pretty intense, and for a while I wondered what the heck it had to do with anything. Obviously we do find out later in the story, but the beginning had me curious.

Then we meet Ethan and Taylor. Two guys with broken hearts trying to find their way again. It was sugary sweet most of the time, which was a nice balance for the drama in the book. It did seem that Ethan (who wanted nothing to do with a relationship) and Taylor (who was in the closet) quickly dropped those issues and jumped right into going after what they wanted. While they jump in to the relationship, they don't rush into anything. It was refreshing that they do so respectfully to each other and to their family.

The secondary characters were great. Ethan's best friend was awesome as he pushed Ethan to go for what he wanted. Taylor's mother, while not comfortable with the idea at first, realized that Taylor and the kids were #1 and welcomed Ethan with open arms. The kids were AWESOME! I loved how the kids were not glossed over in the story and were a major focus of it (much like they would be in real life).

The drama was pretty dramatic. Poor Ethan and Taylor deal with a lot of stuff thrown their way as they are targeted (Ethan because he wrote an article on same sex adoption and Taylor because he is supporting a case as a lawyer). It did seem a bit over the top at times (especially with law enforcement and not doing investigating quickly), but it probably could happen just like that anywhere, which is scary. The important thing, however, is that we get a true HEA and get to see a family. Together. I loved that.

There was only one thing that made me go "huh?" This was the timing of the book. There was a prologue that was dated 1986, so I knew that was in the past, but when it moved to the "future", I didn't know until much later in the book that it wasn't too much further into the future (early 90's). Knowing this in the beginning would've helped me with timelines as we learn about things in Ethan's past.

Very solid book.
