- Anna Letitia Le Breton was born in London to a distinguished literary and medical family. Her father Charles Rochemont Aikin was a member of the Royal College of Surgeons. He had grown up as the adopted child of his aunt, the prominent poet and writer Anna Laetitia Barbauld, and named his daughter in her honor. Historical writer Lucy Aikin also was a close relative. Anna
was educated at home and saw much of her great-aunt Lucy.
In 1833, she married
Philippe Hemery Le Breton, a lawyer from a Jersey family, with whom she had eight children.
She assisted her husband in preparing his Memoirs, Miscellanies, and Letters of Lucy Aikin, which was published in 1864. In 1874, she herself edited Lucy Aikin's correspondence with William Ellery Channing, the American Unitarian theologian, and published a Memoir of Mrs. Barbauld, including Letters and Notices of her Family and Friends. Anna's last book, her own Memories of Seventy Years, by one of a Literary Family, appeared in 1883.
