This book was so good! There was so much going on!!!
I loved Jay, he was the best partner for our main character. He absolutely supported her through and through and it was awesome.
The book read kind of like a Scooby Doo mystery (complete with a “meddling kids” reference), but with a more fantastical theme rather than spooky. But it was really good. I would recommend this!

This YA fantasy novels weaves Indigenous folklore and contemporary mystery together to follow Elatsoe, a young Lipan Apache girl with the ability to summon the spirits of dead animals, as she sets out to solve the murder of her beloved cousin. As she navigates a world where mythical creatures and humans beautifully coexist, the story exposes themes of family, loss, and cultural heritage. Darcie Little Badger's writing is enchanting and powerful, and she paints a vividly imagined world for her readers that is easy to get lost in. This is the first book I've ever read with Asexual representation so it was very heartwarming to read. This book follows a 17 year old Lipen Apache girl (the author is also Lipen Apache) in an alternate universe, as the tried to uncover and bring justice to her cousin's murder. She is able to bring back animal and extinct being "back" to "life." (The beings are invisible). There is vampires, wizards, and faeries in the book as well. I would say, towards the end, the story reads like a horror movie and I can picture it vividly in my mind. I was so engrossed in the book, I jumped when my roommate came home. My absolute favorite part, however, is how her parents believe her and support her. I also love how her mom was able to get rid of the Vampires (the cursed).… (mer)

The story progressed very slowly, and I didn’t feel a connection to any of the characters though cheerful Jay was mildly entertaining. However, I enjoyed how supportive and loving Ellie’s parents were and how much Ellie esteemed her great-grandmother. Still, this story is only for patient readers.
