Werner Loewenstein

Slogging through the long portion of the book dealing with sensory information processing, I felt that Loewenstein evidenced more expertise in biology than in physics or computer science, and I was confused by some of his explanations, mystified by many of his diagrams, and less than thrilled with his persistent metaphors (e.g. proteinic "demons", "Lady Evolution"). But in the later parts which touch on possible biomolecular underpinnings of consciousness per se, I was rather impressed by his rejection of the quantum-related proposals of Wigner and Penrose/Hameroff and his hypothesis that quantum *computation* is a relevant model.… (mer)
