Sophie is looking forward to getting out of her dead-end town and studying art at a nearby university. She already has plans to live with her best friend Beth who has found a nice apartment above the local undertaker. But a fox bite changes a lot of her plans.

Beth has always had vivid dreams but now her dreams seem to be turning into premonitions. One of the first guys she meets at the university is Sebastian whose eyes have been haunting her dreams for years. Sebastian and his cousin Connor are both attending the university though they are a few years older than Sophie and her friends.

Sebastian introduces her to a whole new world filled with werewolves, vampires, demons and other paranormals. He tells her that she has been chosen by the goddess Tokala to fulfill an epic destiny. Sophie isn't sure what to believe but she is developing strange new powers of her own.

I liked the worldbuilding in this one where their are different worlds each with different varieties of paranormals. It seems that Earth has become something of a battleground where they are all fighting for power.

I didn't really care for Sophie. I didn't like the way she treated her mother or her best friend. I also couldn't quite buy in to the massive personality change she exhibited in the story. She didn't seem like a very nice person and I wondered why the goddess had chosen her for a great destiny. I also thought that she hooked up with the wrong cousin. Connor showed caring and concern for her while Sebastian went off without a word and just left her behind and confused. He also seemed to be careless of her feelings and seemed to find it easy to dismiss her when he had other things to do.

This book is the beginning of a trilogy and the trilogy is part of a much larger sequence of stories set in the same fictional universe that only loosely resembles the real world.

I'll start by saying I got this book for free from Amazon. I think that helped me enjoy the book a lot more than if I had paid for it in all honesty.

This book showed a lot of promise. I thought it was going to be filled with some drama, a heroine who was getting over a rough experience and the POV of the romantic love interest--but that this wasn't the case.

Based on the synopsis, it seemed to me like they were going to stress Amy's "relationship" with Josh's brother more. However, they barely touch upon it and when they do, I find that they don't take the issue seriously enough. Sexual assault is a serious crime and in this book they treat it as if it is just something blasé which really disappointed me and left a sour note in my mind when I was reading. Which is a shame because I thought Amy and Josh were super cute together and I liked their scenes together.

As far as drama goes, it's your typical miscommunication scenarios and so while it did help push the plot forward, it just wasn't anything new to me.

I also didn't get the timeframe of the book. It's been over a year since the "event" and Amy and Josh carry on like nothing happened or it's just been a few months. I just felt like if they liked each other that much, they wouldn't have waited as long as they did. Then when they reunite, it happens a little too fast for me considering they haven't talked in over a year and before that year they didn't talk to each other too much (or at least that is the impression I get). Besides their physical attraction to each other, I didn't see why else they liked each other and I wish the book emphasised this a bit more.

Also, my final peeve--I don't really get the title. I understand where it comes from after reading the book but I don't get the metaphor...

If you want a cute story about second chances, an exotic vacation and some mild sister drama, grab this book when it's free again on Amazon.

Interesting storyline

It took a while for this novel to get going. There were excessive descriptions of the sky and the weather and the food and parties and clubs. The idea is intriguing, but the execution could've been better. All the moments when the storyline actually moved forward were quite engaging. There was just too much lag time in between.
Parts of the novel were hard to follow. The writing was a bit jumpy. Things would happen kind of suddenly that were confusing.
I was roped Into the novel by the romantical interest between the main character, Sebastian, and Connor. That was the only thing that kept me reading to the end.

This novel contains moderately graphic make-out scenes and mild language. Not for the LDS reader.

Honestly, regardless of what kind of individual you are, from a sweet little thing that is still as pure as some newly fallen snow to an individual who has probably broken every forbidden sin in the book, from an individual who comes from the other side of the tracks to someone who comes from the upper crust of society; haven’t you yearned to fantasize about spending some time in the arms of a Bad Boy. If you have, then this limited edition boxed set of over 20 full-length novels is something you must definitely check and at less than five cents per story; how can you lose?

There’s a wide variety of bad boys within these stories, bad boys who are a movie or rock star, a guy who’s in a uniform from one of the armed services to a sly business mogul and everything in between. In addition to this, there’s a variety in the level of heat in the language [both dialogue and narrative] from a simply an innocent and sweet tale to one which is so hot you might be unable to stop wetting the pair of panties you’re wearing as you fantasize about being in the shoes of the female protagonist in the story.

If you’re already into reading Bad Boy stories, this will be a chance to visit some of your favorite authors; or better yet, discover new authors you’ve never read anything from. For having given readers this wonderful opportunity, I’ve given this 20+ story anthology 5 STARS.
