Jacob Marder was one of the top two historians of the Royal Navy in the first half of the Twentieth Century. As an American, he could perhaps be more objective about the short-comings of the "Silent Service ", especially in WWI. His five volume history "From the Dreadnought to Scapa Flow" sits in the middle of Jutland scholarship. These essays were gathered in his honour by some of the students and research assistants. An interesting selection.
