I really liked the book, despite things happening too fast between the three characters, literally in a span of a couple of days. Usually it turns me off. But even though my mind screams "too fast, can't be real!", my heart goes with "but they went through so much!"
There is not much BDSM in this book, but it doesn't have to be. We only get a short glimpse into the life of Ki and David, as many of us have already noticed (and taken the stars off for that, too). There are only hints at more intence scenes between the two throughout the book and it's fine with me personally. I don't expect whippings and extreme bondage in every book tagged "bdsm".
I would really love to know more about Kiyoshi's past or even present, besides the fact that he's David's partner. He is a very fascinating character.
5 stars.

I remember the first story in this series, despite dealing with otherworldly creatures, a mix between demons and zombies, that story was mostly naughty and odd to say funny. Diego is a naïve demon, newborn to the modern time from the middle ages and so totally like a kid in a candy store, everything catching his eyes he has to have and Rick, the almost retired cop who found him in a cemetery is part of the package. Diego attaches himself to Rick like a loyal puppy to his master, but like a puppy he needs to be take care of, and the protective Rick is the right man; a fringe benefits of the job is that having sex with Diego, and exchanging blood, Rick is growing younger day by day.

On the run from fanatics who want to send Diego back in hell, the obvious places where Rick can bring Diego to experiment his new life are Las Vegas and Los Angeles, place were lights and glitters sometime cover the ugly reality. Moreover place where appearances do count, and Rick is slowly loosing his wisdom while Diego at the same time is losing his newfound innocence; even if in danger, and on the run, Rick and Diego are doing it in a grandeur way, enjoying the decadence of being forever young while enjoying each other young bodies.

I like that, even if more like a splatter movie than a romance novel, in any case there is a underline of romanticism in the story: Rick and Diego really loves each other, and their bond is not only a way to survive, they really believe to their words when claiming there will be no other for them; what started more like a Rick taking care of Diego, now is morphing in a same level relationship, something that is reflected also in their lovemaking.

Let Them Try Harder is a nice conclusion to the previous introduction story, if you read them together you will have the whole feeling of the story; and if the authors will decide to take these men up again, there is still space for something more, after all, there are still a lot of shining and decadent location in the US where two gay guys can spend time enjoying themselves.

A fascinating dark fantasy. The thrills start right for the opening chapters when a young teenaged boy is to be fed to a pair of caged twin demons by a crazed fundamentalist congregation in South Dakota for the crime of possessing a few nudie magazines, and continue to the arresting climax. Shivers arise as incidents are described such as a mother demon ripping her conjoined twin babies apart and throwing them away... too many to mention..

This novella was a mix of comedy and paranormal, but the comedy part of the story had the lion share.

Rick is a pushing 50 years old patrol cop; he has no desire or mood to climb the career staircase, and basically he is happy to wait for when he will retire. Rick is also gay and in the closet, or better, he sees no reason to come out if not with his closest friends: it’s not like he has someone at home waiting for him, and if most people don’t know about him, it’s better. When he wants company, there is always a bar or a cheap motel where he can find it.

As any other man who enjoyed his body when it was young and athletic, Rick has a penchant for young men, but even so, he has not exactly the physique du role to draw them, and so he limits himself to dream, until the day he literally stumble upon his dream comes true. Rick is patrolling the cemetery, some teenagers are trying for a demon summon and he scares them away; behind them they leave Diego, young, beatufil and naked. At first Rick thinks the young man is one of them, but then Diego proves to Rick that he is the real thing, a demon who chose the perfect body to entice Rick to take him home. That is, Diego, even if a demon, and powerful, and ancient, behaves like a lost puppy, like someone who wants to belong to someone else; I think Diego felt that Rick is a good man, someone who would never hurt him, and so he picks him up as his protector.

It’s simple for Diego to convince Rick to take him home and to let him remain: it’s sufficient to lounge in Rick’s bedroom completely naked or to accidentally appear in the shower, completely naked as well, of course, and Rick has no way to refuse him. The nice side effect is also that Diego not only makes Rick feel younger, he is really making him younger. Unfortunately not everyone is able to see Diego throught Rick’s eyes, and it’s interesting that the authors chose to use the religious stigma instead of the moral one: people will try to send Diego away not since he is too young for Rick (at least in this body), or since he is gay, but since he is a demon, and a demons can’t be good. It’s nice to see how the authors try to contradict this assumption, going back at the beginning of time, making demons the first who were “betrayed” by their own father.

Rick and Diego are perfect together, since Diego meets Rick’s kink for young men, without being really so young, and Diego has found in Rick the protective figure he is searching, almost a fatherly figure, again without really needing it, but only since he has a kink as well.
