Silverhorn av Marri Champie
Det här är en av LibraryThings förhandsrecensioner.
I had high hopes for this book as it is my book received as an early reviewer. However, I found it difficult to get into at the start and It moves a bit slowly for my tastes. It is a nice mix of Celtic and Native American folklore. It just didn't really hold up as a "great" read. That said, the imagery and strong female representation are redeeming.

"Silverhorn" is a unique, full of female heroism, and the value of family, history and friendship. Marri Champie's "familiar" writing style allows the reader to become part of the book and really feel what they are feeling.

He drinks a lot to deal with the pain, and she hears someone calling her into the mountains. The large deer who live in the mountains turn out to be the remnants of a magical ancient population and she finally uncovers the secrets of her mother's death and her own legacy.… (mer)

This book was interesting in that it incorporated bits of both Celtic and Native American mythology, though the execution was a bit uneven at times. Though the plot tended to be predictable, Champie is nontheless a good writer, and her descriptive language kept me reading even when I was fairly sure what was coming next. I think with a little more depth and some extra room to breathe, this book would have been great. As it is, I give it three stars for the good characterization and lyrical prose.… (mer)
