Not really a fantasy, it just has speaking animals interacting with humans who don't hear what they say. Cecil enjoys going out on fishing boats for a day, but when his brother Anton is captured for service on an overseas journey their mother implores Cecil to go find him. Chapters alternate between each brother's experiences on ships, thru storms and becalmed seas, pirates, confrontations with tough rats, help from whales or dolphins, deserted islands with hungry vultures. Will they ever meet up?
For middle school readers with a good vocabulary and for cat lovers of any age. This book would have benefitted from a sketch of a sailing ship with terms identified: e.g. spar, mainsail, starboard, fo'castle.

Again, cute fluff. New adventure, again heavily dependent on luck and confidence. No generational prophesy on this one - it's more about the power of networking. Be friendly to everyone you can; if they can't help you, they can lead you to someone who can lead you to someone (...repeat as needed...) who can help you. It's slightly more believable than the first book, though only slightly - separated parties rejoin way too easily. Some very quick healing happens. And - the mouse is definitely mouse-colored (gray-brown), why does she call him Snowball? Odd. Fun to read once, and if someone just the right age read it it might become a treasured favorite. Not for me, though. Oh - I have the ARC; lots of "art to come", with sketches filling in most of the spots (some are just blank). But even those sketches are nicely done, conveying the movement and action of the scene depicted.… (mer)

Mildly interesting adventure, written for children. The cats - Anton and Cecil, and several others - are vividly drawn and quite convincingly catlike; their adventures, much less so. Anton, the homelover, gets shanghaied onto a ship; Cecil, who's long wanted to sail, goes out to "rescue" him. The way they end up meeting is highly unlikely on many levels - where did the people go (Marie Celeste? But that was a bigger ship, I think)? And have there really been cat, and mouse, and ferret generations repeating a prophesy about something so mundane? Eh. Cute story, happy ending, not for me. Though I probably will read the sequel, since I have it.… (mer)

This is the third book in the Anton and Cecil historical fiction series. After traveling by ship and train in the first two books, they get an opportunity to travel in the air in this outing. Anton and Cecil hook up with a bloodhound, Ruby LaNez in Chicago, to try a solve the mystery of the stolen white puppies. After helping to capture a bank robber, they head off to the fair to track down half a dozen missing white puppies. When they think they know who the culprits are, Cecil accidentally ends up in a hot air balloon. After a disaster in the sky, he ends up at the circus where he locates the missing puppies. With the help of some of the circus animals and a group of overgrown rats, he comes up with a plan to free a Siberian tiger and rescue the puppies. Anton and Ruby follow their noses and also end up at the circus. Will they be able to rescue the puppies and get them back to their owners? What will happen to the circus animals? Will Anton and Cecil ever get back home? What an enjoyable adventure for a pair of adventurous cats. The illustrations are scattered throughout this early chapter book and add just enough visual appeal that children will enjoy. For readers who love animal adventurers this is a fun series. This is an early chapter book that would be great for those late primary, junior readers to enjoy.

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
