PIZZA! Who doesn't love pizza? Some children may want to know who came up with pizaa? Why does Pizza have cheese and tomator sauce on it? Well this book answers all of those questions and more! The illustrations in this book really pop out at the reader because the illustrator made the picture black and white and only colored the parts of the picture that is being expressed in the writing. This is a fun book that informs the reader about how pizaa happened and where it originated. Did you know that the tomatoes, basil and cheese that is on the pizza came from the flag of Italy? Raffaele Esposito wanted the pizza to reflect Italy! Fantastic easy read for readers who are just starting out!… (mer)

I thoroughly enjoyed this book for two reasons. The writing was very organized and informing about the creation and history of pizza and how it came to the United States. The writing engaged the reader into the steps of making a simple Italian pizza. “He put red tomatoes on top of flat, round dough. He put on green leaves of basil, too.” It informs the child reader about something they eat all the time but never knew how it came around or was made. The illustration went along with the writing very well. It supports the step by step process of pizza making, showing the ingredients and how they were used. The emphasis on red, green and white correlate with the Italian heritage of pizza as well as the ingredients used to make it. Heritage and its history is important for children today because of how diverse our society has become and will continue to be.… (mer)
