While the book did a good job detailing the different sorta of trafficking that can occur, it read like an expanded upon thesis paper. I do appreciate the author's devotion to ending the exploitation of the many unseen victims.

I found this subject so interesting. The fact that Americans with no connection to any terrorist group could be recruited pretty easily is astonishing to me and believable all at once. Criminologist/Author Kimberly Mehlman-Orozco explains the precise patterns that make average Americans vulnerable to recruitment. Those patterns are not what you'd think they are.

This was difficult to read because what kept going through my mind was the utter lack of regard the "consumers" had for the workers - and not all trafficked people are sex workers. The language they use shows how selfish and callow they are, and when you consider they are our fathers, brothers, husbands, boyfriends, and coworkers, it is simultaneously horrifying and disgusting. At least, it is to me.

In the current environment, with the leader of the country treating women and immigrants so callously, perhaps this book will help to motivate people to take action on a variety of fronts. As an educator, it is wrenching to read this, but it is also something that I think we do need to read in order to begin to address this modern day slavery.

Yes, arrest the traffickers. If you feel you have to, arrest the workers (I don't think they should be arrested).. But for goodness sake, arrest the customer too, because they are also breaking the law. Especially if they are engaging in activities with minors. As you read this book, be prepared to learn about things that you perhaps never knew existed, and then, think about what you can do to stop these loathsome practices. This has been well researched, and I think it presents many of the challenges faced by society in ending trafficking. One is the willingness of people to fail to understand that they are being exploited, and that is among the most challenging.
